EDSS 555: SDAIE Strategy

A great strategy that I would like to incorporate in the PE curriculum would be graphic organizers. In chapter 5 of our textbook, it shows that "graphic organizers can increase the chances that students who are unfamiliar with English will understand lessons sufficiently to provide scaffolding in the form of visual representation of the language" (August & Shanahan, 2010, p. 225) For example, if we were doing a tag rugby unit, you could do a graphic organizer breaking down the history of the sport, critical elements, and rules via pictures, drawings, or even a description of the idea. This will also allow students do show creativity and ownership of the activity by allowing them to make it however they like.
